Community Spotlight - San Jose FL

When considering a move to Northeast Florida, one of the Jacksonville communities you might want to consider is San Jose. It is situated just north of the Mandarin suburb, mere minutes from all the shopping and restaurants that Mandarin offers as well. They respect their history here. In fact, you can still find some of the original homes built back in the early 1900s in and around the area.

San Jose, FL

A Brief History

Developers of Jacksonville’s San Jose community kept the automobile in mind when designing its layout in the early 1900s. In fact, it was one of the first communities in Jacksonville to do so. Before that, the area was plantation land. However, World War I put development on hold. Interest picked back up again in the 1920s. Unfortunately, the real estate boom in Florida began to wane by the mid-1920s and, again, residential development ground to a halt. After World War II, though, things picked up again. Today, this small community offers a decidedly urban/suburban mix of young professionals.

Demographics

The population of San Jose sits at 5943. Median home values come in at $146,307, approximately 21% below the national average. More people rent (69%) than own (31%) their homes. Less than 20% of households include families with children. Niche.com gave San Jose an A for its nightlife and diversity and an A- for the weather. They also consider it a good place for families, awarding it a B grade. Cost of living and outdoor activities received a grade of B+, giving it an overall grade of B.
